Quick Tips

You might find this handy: all the extra little Tips in one place.. Mark it a Favorite right now! (Dont forget to "refresh" the page each time you come back...) When visiting a page that you have seen before, in order to see what new information may have been added, you may need to click on the Refresh button above. In Firefox its a re-circling arrow.)

Tip: make the text bigger and easier to read
When you are looking at the Internet, Hold down the CTRL key (at the bottom left corner of your keyboard) and tap the + key a couple of times.

As the browsers keep developing, "Tabs" were developed so you could move back and forth to several pages open at the same time.

You have to be careful when you want to close a page, to close only the TAB, instead of closing the browser window.

There are small X-it boxes on each tab.. sometimes not so easy to see. The latest versions now show a "thumbnail" mini-view of the pages you use most or have marked as a Favorite or Bookmark.

NOTE: A lot of actions on the computer don't really happen until you click a "Done", "Finish" or a "Save" button.

Reminder: Never, ever give out your SS# or an Acct# if someone has called you OR Emailed you.

Another tip: If possible, when buying online, keep a credit card and email only for that. then if you have to close either one, you can without causing yourself a problem.

Use a graphics editing program to resize photos to 600 (or less) pixels in width when sending by e-mail. It takes time to download large images.(Gmail does this automatically now.)

Don't be shocked if a favorite page online just isn't there anymore. Websites can change frequently.

and here is a special one: a "triple-doozy"! If your computer suddenly seems to have "frozen" (meaning the mouse won't work!), use both hands to press and hold in order: Contrl+ALT+ Delete, then let go. A window will pop up giving you several options, which you can choose by using the directional arrow keys. This is a way to shut down and start over, or to go to a list of applications and stop the one that is causing the trouble. Try it sometime.. It's very handy.
