More and more Seniors are getting online everyday, as they discover the fun and convenience the computer has to offer! Here's a sample of what I'm talking about...

All of the interesting things below are possible because of the Internet, so take a minute to find out what it is, and the best way to use it.

Socializing with Friends and Family

For many people, the best thing with the computer is the ability to stay in touch with family and friends. This has led to Social Networking, personal websites, Blogs, and YouTube.

• (Facebook, Twitter) were meant for them.
• Email is good to keep in contact, Skype is even better, especially with a web cam.
• BLogs are meant to start great conversations, or tell wonderful stories.
• They play online games with people all over the world!
• They love their computer because their Friends are in it!

Fun

Any thing that makes you smile, laugh and feel good!

• TV, movies, videos on "Youtube"
• games, hobbies
• Looking at art from the finest museums, incredible photos
• Listening to music
• Reading, even writing, but it's easier on the computer.

Need an address or phone number of a company? Search for it. Yes, even in the Yellow pages. Just type "yellow pages" into the address bar of your browser..then look for a Search Box.

You can find ANYTHING if you know how to SEARCH for it. For this purpose, 'Search Engines' have been developed. You may recognize the names of Google, Yahoo, Ask or Bing.

Business

Paying YOur Bills ONline

This has become the way of the world so quickly.. because it's CONVENIENT! You can be travelling in Timbuktu (where ever that is) and make a mortgage payment online. You can pay for goods from a store in Panama after midnight, without a check. You can transfer money from one account to another without leaving the house.

For this to work, a way to exchange money safely had to be developed. Read about financial safety and then find your bank's website.

Learn one way it's done at PayPal.

It wasn't long until people found the way to list their personal items for sale on eBay, and Etsy and develop online "Classified" ads, such as Craig's List.

Working from Anywhere!

Entrepreneurs pushed this a bit further to find opportunities to develop income from all the ways in the regular business world, such as advertising, copy writing, auctions, but all "online".

It has made a relaxed, home/work environment possible. I think this has been the biggest change in our world in this Century. It empowers single parents, disabled and a lot more to work-at-home, anywhere, making a living.

Learning

Every classroom in the world, that has computers, uses the Internet. The younger generations take it quite for granted.. having grown up with it, learning from their friends what they can do with it every day.

This also means YOU have access to the best learning resources available, 24 hrs/day every day, from a variety of teachers!
There are terrific tutorials on the Web, about almost anything to explain step by step "How To"... You can learn

• HOW TO TYPE
• edit Digital Photos
• learn a language
• repair your computer
• study for basic education
• or get a university degree

Just type it in the browser's Search box.

There are "Podcasts", which are audio recordings to listen to, and video tutorials on YouTube, and elsewhere.

Genealogy, the history of our ancestors, grew exponentially, as people realized they didn't have to physically travel to archives for documents. The information could be found online. Collaboration is easy and exciting!
