Finding the Right Accessibility Aids to Help!!

Whether you have low vision, stiff, shaking hands, or can't hear, for a lot of us, trying to use a computer can be very frustrating.

Most of us have some body part that doesn't work quite right? but the good news is, we don't have to let that slow us down. There are a lot of smart people out there who are developing new and better aids for us to use in order to see the screen, click that mouse, use a keyboard and even hear what is written!

It's called " Accessibility".. and I can guide you to some of the best information and products.

Where to Start:

1. The first step is to know what is already available on your computer now! Microsoft has done a lot to enable us to use our computers, in spite of physical problems.
   Watch these videos explaning of some of the tools and settings available, by clicking on the colored words. The information on how to change settings for the screen display and pointer are VERY important for anyone with impaired vision.

Changing your individual settings can help a lot. Find a friend who knows how to fix the settings on your computer, and ask them to help.
(By now, we should know better than to always do it the "hard" way!)

2. The next thing to do is search the Internet for the term "Computer Accessibility Products". That could keep you busy for QUITE a while and in the process you may be amazed at what people can do who are a lot more "disabled" than you are!
3. GO to the office supply or computer store, and TRY OUT different mice and keyboards.. but don't buy anything yet! Find a salesperson that is happy to help (or move on to the next store!) Explain carefully what your difficulty is, so they can try to find a good solution.
