Did you like the Windows 7 introductory ads? Cute! (Talk about rebuilding an Image!)
I don't remember when a new Windows operating system has been so hopefully anticipated. A lot of people who bought computers within the last year or so, have Windows Vista on those machines as their operating system.. and the general feeling has not been one of satisfaction, to put it mildly.
Upgrading from Vista is easy and straightforward. One of the tools to help you is included in Vista: Windows Easy Transfer.
FIRST thing to check to be sure: MINIMUM requirement of 1 Gig Memory (better to have 2G.. newer computers have way more than that, but your older one might have less.
The new complete program is $199 USD for the Home Premium version. Amazon sells the Home Premium upgrade for $119. But by far, the best value is the Home Premium FAMILY PACK for those of us with more than one computer in the house. At Costco, I priced it at $128 for three licenses!
For XP users, Win 7 will require a complete clean installation, which means you back up your documents, photos, music and program downloads to an external hard drive, then take everything off (a great time to get rid of what you don't need...) except Windows XP. As I understand it, then you can use the Upgrade you need. Then you have to re-load all of your "stuff".
You too can use Windows Easy Transfer, but you'll need to search online for it, and download it.
Want to know more?? Microsoft has put it all into a chart, so you know exactly what you need. I refer you to this link: Windows Upgrade Chart
For those of you who only use a computer to browse the web, check your email, chat in forums, and maybe write a note occasionally, this might be the time for you to consider the smaller Netbooks. Their small size is perfect for people on-the-go.. low price is good.. as long as you realize you might not be able to upgrade the components, so be sure to get one with Win 7. Just consider them to have a bigger screen and keyboard than an iPhone! Here's an interesting link to learn more about the Win 7 version for them: Win 7 Starter
