How to Use Windows
Do you know how to use the operating system, Windows?
My students are always asking "How do I...(do something specific)..?"
They don't realize they need to know how to use the basic computer first.
First
Of course, you need to know how to use the keyboard and the mouse..It's not a typewriter. It's not just that simple.
There are things that you've never done, because you didn't know they could be done.
That's all explained on the ">First page. Please practice the exercises, then come back here.
Terms
In order to follow directions, you need to know the "language".
The page Terms, will help you to understand the names of things. It also tells you how to use some of the tools of Windows.
Shut Down Procedure
It's important that you Shut Down your computer correctly.
If you don't, very soon your computer will operate VERY S_l_o_w_l_y… or not at all.
Start Menu
There is a lot inside this computer, and the Start Menu helps you find where you need to go. It's your map, or GPS.
The Desktop
You will want to customize your Desktop to work well.. Some of us are neat, and some are not!
Find out what you can safely delete, and what you can't!
Computer Maintenance
Computer Maintenance is required, just as it is on all machines, but this is a lot different than just adding oil!
But similarly, if you don't, it'll cost you $$$.
The Windows Keyboard
Using the keyboard functions puts YOU in charge of the computer!
Windows Combination Keys will make you feel like a PRO!
