Confusions, Irritations, and Annoyances

Lots of things happen that CONFUSE a beginner in this computer experience. I'll try to explain some of them.

Popup Window Messages:

" To view ( or do, etc) you must have FLASH.."   What the heck is this, and how much will it cost me??
First of all, there are several uses of the same word "Flash" that are totally different. How's that for confusion?.

In this particular case, you get a message similar to this in a popup window on your computer screen, right after you've pushed some button. The message is telling you that in order to accomplish what you would like to do, your computer is missing a vital program, called Adobe Flash. No problem. The maker Adobe gives free downloads of it's very important programs, both Flash and Reader. There should be a link nearby, or in the popup, which will allow the program to be downloaded to your computer.. Then you can continue with whatever you were trying to do. Don't worry about downloading it.. Adobe is one of the Good Guys.

Accompanied by BRIGHT COLORS, FLASHING words, and generally scary graphics! "You have 983 viruses, (etc..) and Registry errors.. PROTECT YOUR COMPUTER!.. GET ( Program) RIGHT NOW!

Please recognize SCARE TACTIC MARKETING and avoid at all costs. First of all, if you already have a good program working, that should help you know "it probably isn't so." Run a scan with your own program, just for reassurance.

When you want to get good Virus protection (anti-malware), there are many, many excellent programs available from their own legitimate websites, and the best ones offer a month's free trial first for you to see if you like the way they work. Just type into the browser address box: " anti-virus" to search for them or "anti-malware". Read about them, and learn, because this is the most important and necessary protection for your Internet use. Look for articles "reviewing" different ones. You'll learn a lot.
